Flip Flop February Challenge Day 10: Fish Tail Braids or Half Moon

Greetings All!

It's Sunday again! There will be a Sun-tried-day post later on (if you're into that sort of thing!), but for now we are deep into the second week of the Flip Flop Challenge, kindly hosted by Jilltastic Nail Design. Today is either fish tail braid, or half moons. Fish tails look really fiddly and I'm not a big fan of the look, so I opted for half moons!

For those who don't know, half moons are kind of the opposite of a french manicure, in that you have an area at the top of the nails in a different colour, instead of at the tips. I don't currently have any hole reinforcers, which are reputedly brilliant for this technique. I'll have to get some! I tried it with normal french tip guides but I didn't feel that I got enough of a curve. So I cheated a little and used a stamp. I read somewhere about how this was a great use for all those french tip stamps you get, which kind of don't really work on nail tips (great idea, but in practice, your nails are different sizes, maybe different lengths etc. It won't look the same on your thumb as on your little finger!). You just use them at the tops of your nails instead. I love this idea! I already used it HERE.

This is 2 coats of Barry M Gelly in Plum. As you can see it's a gorgeous rich dark purple, and it's obscenely shiny! I then stamped  using Barry M Gold Foil and Gals plate GA20.

As you can see, I didn't get the stamps quite straight. It's a real problem I'm having. Stamping is easy to learn but difficult to master, and I struggle a little with getting everything centred and straight! All of these nails are after more than one attempt!

Tomorrow is splatter or cocktail nails! Cool choice!

Remember to check out everyone else's nails!

  1. I love these. The colors look awesome together. A quick question about your stamping technique. When you stamp are you holding your nail steady and rolling the stamper across it, or holding the stamper steady and rolling your nail across it?

I ask because I find it easier to place things when I roll my nail onto the stamper. I can see where the design is and how it will go onto my nail. This post may make no sense at all. Heh.

    1. That may be what I'm doing wrong! I tend to line them up, and the put the stamper on my nail but I move my nail across the stamper (what was that about making sense?!)
I'm hoping it's just practice I need! I'm OK with full nail designs, but they are easier to line up!

  2. Makes sense to me, BP.
    Gorgeous nails, Cazzy!
