Flip Flop February Challenge Day 3: Watermarble or Dry Marble

Greetings All!

Eeek! I'm very excited about today's post. I'll explain. When I started this blog, I wrote down a list of things I would like to ideally accomplish this year. Take part in 3 challenges. Get some indie polishes. Get 50 followers. That sort of thing. One of these goals was to do a water marble. I know I say that I get intimidated by new techniques, but watermarbling actually scares me. It looks so difficult, so much can go wrong, it looks like a lot of hassle, and I know that even some seasoned polishers struggle to do it. I thought maybe I would give it a try over the summer or something, when I had built up some confidence, just so I could say I gave it a go.

Instead, in a world exclusive, I give you...MY VERY FIRST WATERMARBLE

Now, be nice, it's my first ever go. These 2 fingers above, I am pretty happy with! They look marbly and everything. My index finger was the first one I did, and I think it turned out the best! I always get beginners luck, and then I can never replicate it lol. The rest are hit and miss. My pinkie especially is a bit rubbish (I was getting a little cocky by that point). I also decided in a moment of sheer lunacy to do this with RED (why?!) so please excuse the stained cuticles! I used W7 Black and OPI The Thrill of Brazil (for once lol) they were the first polishes I tried and I didn't experience any problems with the execution. It was just my lack of skill! I didn't even attempt to make a pattern or anything, just random marbling for now. One step at a time!

Overall I'm pretty happy with myself. Although not a complete success, it's definitely not a complete failure. I can now say I've tried this technique, and I would be willing to try it again in the future. It wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be! I'm also happy I can cross another goal off my list.

Be sure to check out some far better marbling from the other lovely ladies!

  1. I really love those two nails! Good for you trying something you've never done before! Isn't red HORRIBLE! It was so difficult trying to get it off the cuticles! Definately not a failure, and you should try it again :) They look nice! Good job!

  3. Nice job!
I hear you on beginner's luck. I have done one watermarble and experienced the same thing. It's so strong with me that I have learned that I do NOT warm up at bowling league. I don't know how many times I throw a strike the first ball and then no more the rest of the night.

    1. lol thank you! I had the same thing with dry marbling. First time - perfect tie dye style nails. I've never been able to do it again - that's why I had to do water marbling lol

  4. Gah! I also have water-marbling phobia. I think you did an awesome job. I got nervous for you just seeing the name of the title! Heh.

  5. These are fab :) Your index and middle finger look like they're supposed to be accent nails, rather than that the other nails just didn't turn out as well! It looks like swirly lines on pretty stones :)

    1. Thank you lol is it too late to say they were accent nails? Haha I should have saved them for 'cocktail' nails!
